Ensures the sterile field is not compromised during the procedure, and takes appropriate action to maintain sterility or correct a break in sterile technique. Interviews and assesses the patient in the preoperative area, checking that all pertinent documentation is present, and that the patient has had appropriate site marking completed with the surgeon according to hospital policy. Communicates with the CRNA when they are ready to send for the patient, including the patient’s name they should be sending for. Assists anesthesia provider as needed for induction, throughout the procedure, and during emergence. Works with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery. Ensures proper positioning of the patient and maintains patient safety during the procedure. Preps the patient’s surgical site according to surgeon preference and according to policy. Knows and adheres to the policies of the Dunes Surgical Hospital and demonstrates fiscal responsibility. Keeps the surgical room clean and organized for the team; keeps instruments and sponges removed from the field organized and visible for counting. Documents the care of the patient in the operating room thoroughly and accurately. Ensures charges are accurate, implants and tissue tracking information is complete, and the documentation is completed in a timely manner. Maintains accurate counts according to hospital policy. Communicates with the OR board runner any concerns regarding patient care, schedule changes, or other issues in a timely, professional manner. Help with turnover, lifting, and breaks during downtimes between cases. Check in with the board runner when the room is completed for further assignment. Actively participates in appropriate committees as assigned. Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood-borne pathogens. Helps to care for and maintain equipment according to IFUs. Informs management of applicable day-to-day situations, and enters Midas Edge reports when incidents occur.
