There are typically 300 deliveries per month. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6 - 8, and a CNA in the nursery. Mom/baby nurses also act as “admit” RNs for all infants transferred to the Mom & Baby unit. Nurses take care of many babies whose status does not require NICU care, but who are not yet ready to go home. Mom/Baby nurses may periodically care for a number of GYN patients. Job Summary Under general supervision, the professional nurse adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcare consumers. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based practices and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in healthcare consumer safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. Essential Functions : Lactation consults for term and preterm newborns. (20%) This is a lactation position; this role will not be expected to perform bedside nursing care. (20%) Some weekend and Holiday coverage will be required. (20%) Understanding policy and procedure related to basic newborn care, donor milk, and feeding routines. (20%) Responsible for inpatient consultation, educational classes, educating antepartum, postpartum and high risk patient population about benefits of breastfeeding, follow up phone calls and occasional outpatient consults. (10%) Providing support to provider/RN peers.
