Job Description Nemours is seeking a Nursing Assistant for our 3 West floor! Position is full-time - 60 hrs every 2 wks, 12-hr rotating shifts, every third holiday, two weekends out of six. This position is responsible for: Assisting with general activities of the patient care unit and assist the health care team with performance of patient care activities, under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse. 3 West is a 24-bed medical surgical unit for patients 0-21 years of age. This unit is designated for orthopedic patients, patients in need of comprehensive rehabilitation and acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, ventilator-dependent patients, and patients with tracheotomies. Additional patient populations include neurosurgical and nonsurgical neurology, and infants transitioning from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Neurology and neurosurgical patients are also cared for on 3 West. This unit was designed to provide single patient care rooms to allow for privacy and family presence during the hospital stay. Responsibilities Ensures an adequate stock of all necessary equipment and supplies in designated areas at established par levels. Ensures a clean and safe patient care unit. Assists patients with activities of daily life (bath, feed, play, etc.) and provides other patient care as directed. Assists other staff in examination or treatment procedures including positioning, holding and comforting patients. Assures all supplies are accurately charged. Contacts pharmacy, dietary, and other departments as designated by the Registered Nurse. Collects patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, other per policy), paying close attention to patient safety, comfort and accuracy of information. Uses Hospital Information Systems as required for patient care, (e.g. documenting vital signs and patient care activities.) Courteously and professionally covers patient care unit front desk as needed.
