Scheduled Weekly Hours: 32 - Registered professional nurse who promotes excellence in nursing practice by providing vascular access nursing care to patients in all age groups, cultures, psychosocial, spiritual and disability concerns. Inserts peripheral intravenous catheters and PICCs for patients using vascular visualization devices, including ultrasound. Consults with staff related to vascular access devices and complications of vascular access. Cares for and maintains vascular access devices and clinical interventions for PICC issues: including clearance of occluded catheters, removal of catheters with resistance, dressing protocols for skin issues. Provides unit-based education. Provides patient/family education. Participates in quality and process improvement projects. Provides direct patient care to in/outpatients requiring sedation for but not limited to procedures and radiological exams. Administers conscious sedation (moderate sedation) per competency under direction of Provider. Accesses patients before, during, and after administration of conscious sedation and provides appropriate care. Assesses and provides appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs including pre/post sedation needs. Renders direct and indirect outcome nursing care through the application of the nursing process; functions within policies, practice guidelines and nursing standards of SMH in accordance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, CDC and OSHA standards, and any other applicable regulatory or accreditation agency. Education/Training: Successful completion of appropriate pretest/ exams, classroom orientation and precepted clinical orientation. Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred. Licenses/Certification: • Current Massachusetts state RN license. • BLS and ACLS certification required. • VA-BC certification strongly preferred. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN. Assures that all supplies utilized for TA procedures/treatments comply with required standards for inventory and quality control. Maintains Therapeutic Apheresis Preparation Packets, assuring that they have the most current forms & process checklist; and are available for physician access on 4W and PICU for emergency procedures. Maintains logs and reports TA quality control issues-- errors, variances, incidents and complaints—to Stem Cell Transplantation Program (SCTP) Quality & Safety Committee. Reviews and revises TA Standards Of Practice (SOP) annually under the direct supervision of the Therapeutic Apheresis Medical Director; assures compliance with current accreditation and regulatory agency standards for TA. Responsible for TA document control and distribution of all TA-related documents. Identify, demonstrate and evaluate appropriate nursing interventions utilizing the nursing process. Interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias and administration of appropriate therapy as ordered by the physician. Care of the patient requiring observation post cardiac monitoring and possible treatment of arrhythmias. Demonstrate ability to use equipment specific to the Critical Care Services.
