Purpose of Your Job Position The primary purpose of your job position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your supervisors. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Education Must possess, as a minimum, a 10th grade education. Experience Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant in accordance with laws of this state. Specific Requirements Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition. Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace. Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices) Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center, which include a medical and physical examination. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the Center. Engages in cluster feeding while seated. Monitors daily intake and keeps nurses informed. Records food intake on Nutrition Work Sheet. Making Beds Uses recommended amount of linen and diapers. Disposes of linen in proper manner. Properly utilizes clean and dirty linen carts. Secures call bells to bed. Beds are made in proper manner. Knowledgeable in procedure for linen precaution. Safety of Residents: Restraints are to be properly applied and released and removed every two (2) hours for at least 15 minutes. Make sure, if restraint is used, that it was indicated on assignment and the proper type is applied. Restraints are checked at the beginning and end of each shift. Supervises ambulation of resident when needed. Proper attention is given that side rails are up on bed when needed. Completes dining room duty as posted by charge nurse. Is alert for spills on floor. Answers call bells as soon as possible. Makes rounds frequently. Reports need for repair and safety matters to charge nurse. To Ascertain Vital Signs Follows procedure in taking TPR correctly. Adheres to the proper procedure for cleaning thermometers/IVAC. Rehabilitation Assists in ambulation, transfers, ROM exercises and good body alignment where indicated. Uses adaptive devices properly. Cooperates with all rehab disciplines. Keeps accountability sheets up to date with signatures as required. Testing of Urine and Collecting of Specimens Has knowledge of proper procedure. Records results. Informs nurse of results. Assignments Receives daily report from nurse. Consults assignment for special duties and sets proper priorities for following through on assignment. Is familiar with and takes proper action in meeting physical needs of resident. Routinely checks and keeps in order all residents' belongings: i.e. clothing, glasses, hearing aid, prosthesis aid, adaptive devices, etc. Ensures that residents on turning schedule is positioned every two hours or as ordered, and documented. Ensures that residents on toileting schedule are assisted as needed, and documented. Resident is kept clean and dry. Gives assistance to co-workers when needed. Uses good handwashing techniques. Cooperation Works well with co-workers and supervisors. Maintains appropriate relationship with residents, families and peers. Gives assistance to other departments: i.e. recreation, when necessary.
