In this role, you will provide anesthesia care for a wide variety of surgical and procedural cases while working alongside anesthesiologists and fellow CRNAs in a team-based care model. Providers practice in a high-acuity environment supporting a large surgical program and Level II Trauma Center. This position offers exposure to a diverse case mix while contributing to safe, efficient, and patient-centered surgical care. Anesthesiology Department The Anesthesiology Department at Salem Hospital supports one of the busiest surgical programs in the region within a 644-bed, not-for-profit medical center. As a Level II Trauma Center and Life Flight hub, the department provides anesthesia services for a wide range of specialties including trauma, neurosurgery, spine, orthopedics, cardiothoracic, pediatrics, obstetrics, vascular, and general surgery. CRNAs practice in a collaborative environment with experienced anesthesiologists and dedicated surgical teams. What you'll do Provide anesthesia care for surgical and procedural cases across multiple specialties including trauma, general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, cardiothoracic, and vascular services. Conduct pre-anesthesia assessments and develop appropriate anesthetic plans for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Administer and monitor anesthesia during procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort. Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and perioperative staff to deliver coordinated patient care. Participate in call coverage to support emergency and urgent surgical services. Document anesthesia care and clinical activities accurately within the electronic medical record. Required qualifications Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program. Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in the State of Oregon or ability to obtain prior to start. Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association. Demonstrated current competency with performance of at least 500 anesthetics within the past 24 months. Additional Information Minimum of two years of acute care surgical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist preferred. Independent practice experience preferred. Performs pre-anesthetic and post anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient and documents findings. * This includes obtaining an informed consent from the patient, requesting consultations and /or diagnostic studies and ordering pre-anesthetic medications. * Select, apply and insert appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status. * Preceptor to SRNA students Participates in the program of continuous quality improvement and a variety of other CRNA functions. * Works with staff from other departments in OR for training purposes including transport nurses as well as residents * Works with Anesthesia Pain team to manage postoperative pain * Provides airway management and/or intubations for emergent, and non-emergent and resuscitation situations throughout the hospital as well as IV placements * Provides professional feedback regarding anesthesia issues affecting patient care, department goals, and the hospital vision to Anesthesia department leadership * Works with Nursing Leadership in the performance oversight of anesthesia techs as well as orientation and education * Checks all equipment and agents to be used in the administration of the anesthetic to be sure it is in safe working order. Manage all aspects of anesthesia care, including pre/post-op evaluations and preparations, administer monitored anesthesia care, regional and general anesthesia, monitor and manage patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, manage fluid therapy, perform and manage invasive monitoring, as privileged by the MTF. Conduct pre-anesthetic assessments/evaluation of patient, obtain informed consent, and order necessary pre-anesthetic medications/consults. Develop and implement anesthetic care plans. Conduct pre-induction assessments, including medical record review, lab data, medication review, and patient condition updates, noting prior anesthetic experiences and complications. Monitor anesthesia care, management of patient anesthesia experience, and performing preoperative evaluations and preparations, administering Spinal, Epidural, Bier Block, Axillary Block, and other regional anesthesia, and general anesthetics monitoring patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, managing fluid therapy, and performing post-operative evaluations. Advise Anesthesiologist or attending physician of adverse reactions necessitating non-delegated medical decisions; takes appropriate actions as directed or required. Maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis and corrects abnormal responses to the anesthesia and/or surgery. Collect and interpret patient physiological data via noninvasive monitoring. Manage the patient's airway and pulmonary status. Manage patient emergence and recovery, including pain/complication management, via medication, fluids, or ventilator support. Document all anesthesia-related events, including agent dosages, fluids, and blood components. Document post-anesthetic visits, noting any complications. Serve as a resource and assist in training staff and student nurse anesthetists in clinical phases. Adhere to CDC and MTF infection control guidelines. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of anesthesia equipment. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Qualifications: Degree: Master's degree in nursing. Education: Graduate from an academic program, approved by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs (COA). Must have and maintain certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetist.
