Job Summary Responsible for supervision of nursing staff on the assigned shift, the nursing care provided and related administrative and professional nursing activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Available to offer direct and indirect clinical support as needed. Available by pager to coordinate or intervene in medical/psychiatric emergencies, complex clinical issues or situations. Available to answer daily clinical problems and questions generated by nursing staff and other team members. Acts as a clinical resource and role model for nursing staff. Coordinate the admission process as needed. 11-7 Shift: Responsible for conducting all aspects of admission process including insurance pre-certification, etc. Direct responsibility for discharge summary process. Administrative Responsible for supervision of nursing staff on the assigned shift. Makes rounds to all nursing units twice per shift. Obtains shift report from nursing units and relays pertinent information to the next shift. Completes staff performance evaluations. Responsible for staffing schedules and daily unit staffing. Interacts with managed care and all insurance entities as necessary. Enters admissions, discharges, transfers and service changes in the Hospital Information System. Activates fire and disaster plans. Reviews staff timecards in EZ Labor and time accruals for accuracy. Works with Security to ensure safety of patients and staff. Oversees emergencies. Facilitates 302 petitions and emergency transfers. Completes supervisory report and checks 24-hour census for accuracy. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for attending and ensuring that all staff members participate in mandated training. Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing. Education / Research / Professional Assists with orientation of new employees; ensures training specific to employee job duties Participates on appropriate committees and task forces.
