Performs procedures and treatments using nursing knowledge and judgment, according to established unit/practice area guidelines and professional standards. 8. DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION Registered Nurse is the designation given to an individual who is licensed to practice professional nursing, holds ultimate responsibility for direct and indirect nursing care, is a graduate of an approved school for professional nursing, and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse pursuant to M.G.L. c.112. The primary function of the nephrology nurse is the holistic care of the End Stage Renal Dialysis patient. The nephrology nurse identifies learning needs, assesses readiness to learn, plans and delivers teaching content utilizing available resources, evaluates, and documents patient understanding through interactions with patient and family. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) Experience: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures. Current experience in nephrology nursing/dialysis preferred. At least one year experience in critical care nursing preferred. Two year medical/ surgical nursing or dialysis experience required. Education and Training: Associates Degree in Nursing Required. Bachelor Degree in Nursing Preferred. Successful completion of critical care course, and arrythmia course required. License, Certification & Registration: RN License - Currently licensed as a Professional RN in Massachusetts.
