Company Allegheny Health Network Job Description GENERAL OVERVIEW Under the direction of the provider and as a member of the health care team, assists in coordinating the examination, treatment and health care planning for patients. Notifies patients of test results under the direction of provider in a timely manner. Prepares exam room for patient visit. Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies. Ensures all patient treatment areas are at all times stocked with the appropriate supplies using established inventory standards. Cleans and sterilizes instruments per established AHN approved policy and manufacturer's guidelines. Accurately performs lab controls and equipment checks as assigned. Administers and accurately documents medications in accordance with policy and safe practice. Documents accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) according to established standards and work flows. Accurately performs clerical office functions and other duties as assigned. Adheres to Nursing Policies and Procedures and Organizational Goals and Objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Practice Provides age appropriate care for the population served. Gives consideration to growth & developmental phase of life, to age related factors such as thermal regulation, nutrition, medication administration, nutrition, safety and functional needs of the patient. Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural and religious needs. Follows Universal Protocol for patient identification and surgical site identification Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice. Adheres to aseptic technique. Respects dignity and confidentiality of Operating room patients. Uses resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, medications, and clinical information. Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift. Assesses the Surgical patient, plans and initiates care and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions. Performs clinical care in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of the patient’s surgical experience. Demonstrates competency to perform both scrub and circulating role in assigned surgical procedures. Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving patients, equipment or lifting trays. Education Training and Experience Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required. Two years’ Operating Room, however training and specialty specific education programs are provided during orientation and must be successfully completed as scheduled. Perioperative credit course is required for anyone with no Operating Room experience. Licensure/Certification Current Pennsylvania RN License. BSN CPR certification required.
