Job Description The Outpatient Oncology Clinical Nurse II serves in a leadership role and delivers direct patient care to an adult Oncology outpatient population. This role will be focused on, but not limited to, Head & Neck Oncology patients. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. At this operational level, the nurse proactively embraces the Oncology Nursing Society/Standards of Oncology Nursing practice to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Minimum three (3) years of total RN experience. Minimum one (1) year of oncology nursing experience (medical oncology, infusion oncology, or hematology/oncology) within the last 3 years, including experience caring for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and/or biologic agents and managing treatment-related toxicities, including immune-related adverse events. Minimum one (1) year outpatient or ambulatory RN experience within the last two (2) years. Demonstrated clinical judgment in the assessment and management of oncology treatment-related symptoms, patient education, and care coordination in the ambulatory setting. Demonstrated knowledge, abilities, and clinical judgment essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. This position requires flexibility to perform other duties as operationally needed. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) or more years of recent oncology nursing experience in the last three (3) years, preferably caring for patients with head and neck cancers or other complex solid tumor populations. Job Description The Birth Center Nurse Manager works in collaboration with the Director and two other Nurse Manager colleagues. Assists with the care of the patient until successful hand off has occurred and adequate resources to attend to the patient are available. Conducts debriefings with nurses involved in RRTs to evaluate the process and provide feedback and education. Provides positive feedback or constructive criticism, in an appropriate manner, to all involved in the event. Functions as a resource for all RNs on duty. Performs daily rounds for at-risk patients on in-patient units. Serves as an “impact” nurse, assisting with patient care duties in all critical care areas (ICU, CVICU, ED, ICCU) as requested by team leads or house supervisor. Provides bedside care and may be assigned patients in times of census need. Attends 75% of RRT Quality Focus Team committee meetings and RRT staff meetings. Assists with data collection and process improvement initiatives as needed. Reports data to appropriate committees as needed. Conducts in-services to promote staff nurse education related to emergency situations including mock codes for in-patient units. Attends quarterly departmental (for assigned in-patient departments) staff meetings to convey feedback from STARRS University and recent debriefings.
