About the Role The Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a Registered Nurse reporting directly to the Nurse Manager and embedded on Howard University Hospital’s 5 North Surgery/Trauma Unit. Through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team you will deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care to a diverse adult patient population including patients with acute medical conditions and surgery/trauma patients admitted for complications, symptom management, workup, and supportive care. What You’ll Do Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care at the bedside; identify patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients, families, and friends; provide a compassionate environment through emotional, psychological, and spiritual support Deliver evidence-based nursing care to a diverse adult patient population — including patients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and infectious conditions, and hematology-oncology patients admitted for complications, symptom management, workup, and supportive care Perform comprehensive assessments including pain and symptom evaluation; implement evidence-based pain and symptom management strategies in coordination with the medical team and palliative care Manage central venous access including peripheral lines, midlines, PICCs, implanted ports, and central venous catheters; perform sterile dressing changes, blood draws, and infusion administration per policy Administer medications and IV therapies safely and accurately across oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, IV push, and infusion routes; recognize and respond to adverse effects and drug interactions Recognize early signs of clinical deterioration — including sepsis, respiratory compromise, and altered mental status; activate Rapid Response and Code Blue teams as indicated and support resuscitation with BLS interventions pending team arrival Provide comprehensive patient and family education on disease processes, medications, self-care strategies, and follow-up care; support patients and families through complex medical treatment plans, chronic disease management, and advance care planning Coordinate care with case management, pharmacy, nutrition, physical and occupational therapy, palliative care, hematology-oncology, and social work to support safe transitions of care and continuity of treatment Document patient care and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record; maintain continuity among nursing teams by communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing care needs through SBAR and structured handoff Delegate tasks appropriately to non-licensed personnel and assistants while retaining accountability for patient outcomes Adhere to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations Serve in the role of charge nurse with approval by the Nurse Manager; serve as a clinical resource and role model for newer nurses, orientees, and student nurses on the unit Participate in unit performance improvement programs targeting overtime reduction, patient safety, and HCAHPS outcomes; engage in education, engagement, and practice committees Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques Promote adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics, the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct, and HIPAA Privacy policies; attend mandatory compliance and HIPAA training; maintain strict confidentiality of patients, families, and staff Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, professional networks, and professional societies Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of this role Required Qualifications Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing required; Devereux Arizona’s Brief Intervention Program (BIP) is a short-term, intensive residential treatment program designed for youth who require stabilization, therapeutic support and 24-hour supervision in a structured and secure environment. Serving youth, ages 7 to 17, the BIP provides a safe space for healing and skill-building. The program is designed for individuals experiencing significant challenges in social, emotional, psychiatric and/or psychological functioning, and who may not have responded to previous community-based services. Our goal is to work closely with families and treatment teams to assess, stabilize and prepare youth for a successful return to home, foster care or another community-based setting – as quickly and safely as possible. Harmony At Home Senior Care works with clients throughout the Dallas area and may have additional morning, afternoon, evening, overnight, or weekend assignments that can be scheduled around this position. Additional assignments are based on current client needs, location, qualifications, availability, and compatibility with the client's schedule. Opportunities for Urgent Shift Coverage We also frequently offer caregivers the opportunity to assist with urgent staffing needs. When qualifying shifts require urgent or difficult-to-fill coverage, temporary increased rates are frequently offered in the $16.00–$20.00 per hour range . Urgent coverage rates apply only to the specific shifts for which an increased rate is offered. They are not guaranteed for every shift and do not change the regular $14.00 per hour rate for this North Dallas assignment. What Does an In-Home Caregiver Do? Caregivers provide non-medical assistance that helps clients safely maintain their daily routines at home. Your specific responsibilities will be determined by the client's established plan of care. Typical caregiver duties may include: Assisting with activities of daily living Personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting assistance Mobility and transfer support Preparing meals and snacks Providing medication reminders Companionship and supervision Light housekeeping associated with client care Assistance with approved errands or transportation Helping maintain a safe and comfortable home environment Observing and reporting changes in the client's needs Documenting services provided during each shift The Caregiver We're Looking For For this assignment, consistency is important. Applicants should be able to reliably maintain the Monday through Thursday afternoon schedule. Candidates should: Be available from 12:00 PM–4:00 PM Monday through Thursday Have reliable personal transportation Have a valid driver's license Be able to reliably travel to North Dallas near the Plano area Maintain punctual and dependable attendance Be comfortable working independently in a client's home Follow client care plans and agency procedures Communicate professionally with clients, families, and office staff Complete required hiring documents, onboarding, and training Prior caregiving experience is preferred. Relevant backgrounds may include work as a caregiver, personal care aide, personal care attendant, PCA, HHA, CNA, home health aide, senior caregiver, assisted living caregiver, or similar role. Relevant personal caregiving experience may also be considered.
