Patients usually cared for in this area include those with trauma tic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Patients may also be transferred to the TSDU from the Trauma /Surgical ICU when their clinical condition has improved but close monitoring or ventilator support is still required . The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. Job Description Nemours is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE. 3 West is a 24-bed medical surgical unit for patients 0-21 years of age. This unit is designated for orthopedic patients, patients in need of comprehensive rehabilitation and acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, ventilator-dependent patients, and patients with tracheotomies. Additional patient populations include neurosurgical and nonsurgical neurology, and infants transitioning from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Neurology and neurosurgical patients are also cared for on 3 West. This unit was designed to provide single patient care rooms to allow for privacy and family presence during the hospital stay. Position is full-time, rotating shifts, 60 hrs in 2 wks, 12-hr shifts, 2/6 weekends, every other holiday. The primary role of the Registered Nurse is to implement the patient care delivery model for the patient and their family. Additionally the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, providing and evaluating, the care provided to assigned patients.
