Monitors and charts patients, collects sample, and performs other tasks as assigned, all under the direction of registered nurses and doctors. Responsibilities: Administers prescribed medications, gives injections and vaccines, reads PPD results. Performs electrocardiograms (EKG) and screening tests. Obtains and tests specimens following standard operating procedures and documents results, taking appropriate action with unexpected results. Prepares specimens for transport as necessary. Gather information from patient and direct to the RN or Provider when necessary. Assists provider with surgical procedures including positioning patients, keeping a sterile field, and wound cleaning and dressing. Prepares paperwork to complete patient visit. Obtains and documents patient's vital signs as needed and reports abnormal results to provider. Cleans, disinfects, sterilizes and checks to make sure all instruments and equipment are in proper working order. Maintains medication storage closets. Participates in orienting new team members. Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures. Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization. SUMMARY OF JOB The Antenatal Registered Nurse must be able to perform all aspects of the nursing process under the Professional Nursing Law. He/she functions as a coordinator and provider of nursing care in the antenatal testing center to the obstetric woman and her fetus, who has a known or suspected at-risk pregnancy. In collaboration with the maternal-fetal medicine physician, the antenatal RN uses assessment, planning and intervention skills to evaluate the patient’s clinical condition, including the use of patient history, diagnostic test results and symptomology during antenatal testing. The antenatal RN communicates, as appropriate, with the patients, obstetric and maternal-fetal medicine care providers, obstetric office staff, perinatal ultrasonographers, genetic counselors, and labor and delivery staff, changes in a patient’s clinical condition and testing results. The antenatal RN serves as a liaison, educator and patient advocate, and functions within individual patient needs, physician orders, Holy Redeemer Health System policy and procedures, and the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act.
