Position Summary/ Department Summary: This Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work in the Emergency Department on the Boston BCH Main Campus. Key Responsibilities: Assess and manage patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints. Work in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, PAs and NPs, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, and medical students. Perform detailed histories and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and develop and execute a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking. Engage in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care. Perform emergency medicine procedures (including but not limited to laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint reductions, splinting, arthrocentesis, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks). Develop discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Summary To practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally and age-appropriate Palliative Care services to patients and families both inpatient and in the ambulatory setting at Texas Children's. The nurse practitioner (NP) will work under a delineation of clinical privileges and work collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the NP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures to meet patient and family needs. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP is responsible for education, research, consultation and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. Job Duties Provide age-appropriate care for one or more of the following age groups routinely: Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult.
