Surgical Technologist - Perioperative Services

Founded in 1921, Straub Benioff Medical Center includes a 159-bed hospital in Honolulu, a network of neighborhood clinics and a visiting specialist program that reaches throughout the state of Hawai'i. With over 200 physicians who are leaders in their fields, Straub provides its patients with diagnoses and treatments for more than 32 different medical specialties, including bone and joint, heart, cancer, endocrinology/diabetes, family medicine, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, vascular and urology. Straub is home to the Pacific Region’s only multidisciplinary burn treatment center. The hospital consistently brings new technologies and innovative medical practices to Hawai'i, such as minimally invasive cardiac surgery and total joint replacement. Our Perioperative Services department provides full support throughout the duration of a patient's surgical procedure, spanning ward admission, anesthesia, surgery and recovery. Professional care services include identification of the patient’s individual needs, patient care plan development and implementation and the coordination of nursing service to restore each patient’s health before, during and after a surgical procedure. As the Surgical Technologist, you will form part of our state-of-the-art Perioperative Services department and help to provide life-changing surgery services. You will perform surgical scrub duties and maintain sterile techniques for all surgical procedures. You will also prepare the operating room, equipment and instruments for surgery while maintaining aseptic techniques. We are looking for someone with exceptional patient care and organizational skills, ability to carry out tasks effectively with minimal supervision and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people. Positions and preps patient for surgical procedure. Performs other nursing duties during procedure as requested by CRNA or Surgeon. Meet needs and expectations of surgical team. Completes appropriate paperwork/EMR for each procedure in a timely manner. Cares for specimens properly. Assists in end of procedure activities (i.e., dressing, patient transfer, room cleaning). Ensures case is posted on paper chart Uses protective clothing/gear as necessary. Works to resolve risk/safety/Quality issues. Reports safety hazards, accidents incidents promptly. Actively works to reduce errors. Actively asks questions when need arises. Required Education and Experience Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota. Knowledge of nursing principles, policies, procedures and medical ethics equivalent to years of experience. Circulating experience required, completion of Periop 101 course may be considered in lieu of circulating experience. Hospital experience preferred. Excellent communication skills at various levels. Computer skills including Microsoft Word. Required Certifications: Basic Life Support and ACLS.
