Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures to include the patient’s cardiovascular system, respiratory system and airway management needs, neurological system, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status. Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors. Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes. Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions. Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer ( e.g. , Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score [ i.e. , PARSAP], Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System [PADSS], White) score accurately as defined by organizational policy. Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care. Implement the plan of care including the following interventions: Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – general. Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – monitored anesthesia care. Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – regional. Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – local. Preparing for and protecting patient from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects. C ommunicating the patient’s current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care. P roviding acute pain and comfort management as needed. A dministering medications safely and correctly by using the 8 -rights of safe medication administration. P erforming interventions to maintain the integrity of the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels . P erforming interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels. P erforming interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period. P erforming interventions to protect patient from infection. M anaging patient’s other co-morbid conditions as applicable. M anaging patient’s fluid as prescribed. A ssessing knowledge level of patient or designated support person and providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain and comfort management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure; I nvolving patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process. P rotecting patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy. P roviding age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice; and P roviding consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting. Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes. Transfer care as needed. Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care. Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions. Document nursing care completely, accurately, and legibly. Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as needed. Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects. This Per Diem Radiology Recovery RN is required to have Radiology recovery experience. Preferred candidates will also be proficient at starting PIVs, be proficient in accessing port-o-caths and have experience using ultrasound machines for PIV starts. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. JOB TITLE : Preop Recovery Nurse GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Assists in provision of nursing care to patients in an Ambulatory Surgical Center setting. Assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and centers policies. The Pre-Operative/Post-Operative Registered Nurse, under the supervision of the PACU Manager or the Director of Nursing, according to the organizational structure, is responsible for providing peri-operative patient care in accordance with sound nursing judgment, regulatory and accreditation standards, and the facility's mission, vision, and values. The position must provide direct and indirect patient care across the age continuum; and utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation according to policies and procedures of the facility. Essential Job Functions: Shows appropriate delegation, while directing and supervising ancillary personnel in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating patient care in the pre-operative/post-operative clinical areas according to accepted standards. Provides direct patient care in the assigned clinical areas and demonstrates clinical competence. Participates in service recovery by taking ownership of the situation and correcting problems. Keeps customers informed of progress related to clinical operations and provides comfort, information and assistance during the process. Reviews daily schedule and prepares patient care areas based upon types of procedures and specific patient care needs. Communicates changes in status as necessary to physicians, family members, and other staff. Initiates physical and psycho/social assessment and pre-operative plan of care, identifies patient and obtains informed consent. Completes and documents a pre-operative interview, obtains necessary diagnostic test results and notifies appropriate physicians and staff regarding variances and/or concerns. Completes the Post-anesthesia record and assures all patients have met the discharge criteria prior to discharge; and provides all patients post-operative instructions. Assures the delivery of quality clinical care through participation in NSH benchmarking programs. Qualifications, Knowledge, and Ability: Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S. Graduate of approved school of professional nursing with current and valid licensure with State Board of Nursing. Minimum of two years of experience required in ICU/Emergency Room/Recovery Room or other critical care nursing environment. Knowledge of State, Federal and Accrediting Body regulations and standards related to healthcare. Ability to achieve CPR, ACLS, PALS certification within 60 days of employment. The PACU staff work collaboratively with the anesthesia providers and all members of the surgical team. We champion a team-based approach to individualized patient care and work alongside surgeons, surgical residents, and general medicine providers. Our care team includes: The PCM and Resource Nurse who can assist with access to education, resources, guidelines, and protocols. PACU is a high-acuity area providing exposure to a variety of surgical treatment and critical care nursing skills. Post Anesthesia Care Nursing is a specialty clinical area with its own nationally recognized certification; CPAN- Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse. Test fee reimbursement offered with successful completion of certification exam. Work Experience: Adult, geriatric, and pediatric surgical patients. Must have at least a year of PACU, ICU or ED experience. New graduates are not accepted for this role. This position will be 9hr shifts totaling 36 hours per week. JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the delivery of patient care in the Outpatient setting that promotes safety and well-being of all patients. Monitoring a patients condition after surgery. Coordinates patient care and communicates effectively with the healthcare team for the benefit of the patient. Floats to direct patient care as needed and as schedule allows. Reports to the Surgical Services Director. QUALIFICATIONS - Education/Experience: Education - Associates Degree [minimum] or Bachelor's Degree [preferred] in Nursing, Current RN license. BLS/CPR must obtain within 60 days of hire. ACLS/PALS preferred. Experience - minimum up to 1 year of job related experience - Preferred 2 to 5 years of job-related experience.
