Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : Under supervision, provides professional nursing care to patients/clients within an assigned unit. Diagnoses and treats responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case-finding, health teaching, health counseling and provision of care supportive to and restorative of life and well-being. Examples Of Typical Tasks Identifies and discriminates between physical and psycho-social signs and symptoms. Selects and performs those therapeutic measures which are essential for effective execution of the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients. Develops, implements and continuously evaluates the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients. Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes on patients/clients to ensure continuity of care. Interprets and reports responses of patients/clients to appropriate members of the health team. Participates with interdisciplinary health team members to plan a comprehensive patient care program. Determines and assigns those components of the nursing regimen which may be carried out by allied nursing personnel. Provides teaching, guidance and direction to allied nursing personnel in rendering patient care. Participates in defining, implementing, maintaining and interpreting standards of nursing practice. Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences pertaining to policies and procedures affecting nursing practice. Participates in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services. Participates in development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel. Interprets philosophy and objectives of agency and Nursing Department to patients/clients, families and other groups. Minimum Qualifications A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA). Special Note For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA). Department Preferences The Critical Intervention Team at Bellevue Hospital (CTI) provides intensive post-discharge case management and supportive services to patients discharged from the inpatient psychiatry and CPEP services. The CTI RN will address the physical/medical health needs of program participants in community settings and during their transition after discharge. The CTI RN will have the unique opportunity to engage with participants who have found themselves in precarious situations that have negative impacts on their physical and mental wellbeing, with limited access to traditional health care options. A strong interest and/or experience working with patients to reduce health gaps and disparities caused by environmental, physical, and social determinants of health is highly preferred. Create patient specific premedication regiment in collaboration with procedure APP. Obtain IV access and preprocedural lab work. Administered preprocedural procedural medications, titrating according to specific patient needs. Also administer chemotherapy and performs procedures safely and efficiently in accordance with Institute policy. May administer blood transfusions. Work as co-sign to Intrathecal Chemotherapy administered by APP. Assists in emergency nursing procedures necessary for prompt control of changes in patient`s physical condition. Maintains awareness of procedural suite activities and works with the Procedure Suite team to maximize workflow. Keeps abreast of changing techniques in procedural nursing and maintains a high level of expertise in critical care. Responsible for intraprocedural monitoring of patients not limited to maintain active airway, assesses effective circulation and respiration via capnography and telemetry monitoring. Safely recover patients post sedation, perform discharge teaching, and evaluate safety of patient discharge. Coordinate correct research specimen collection with research coordinators. Maintain Joint commission readiness. Provide as needed support for biopsy specimen collection when not acting in a procedural sedation role. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team. Minimum Job Qualifications Education: Associate degree, Nursing. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing strongly preferred. If Associate degree in Nursing, must complete BSN degree within 4 years. Experience: Completion of the Oncology Nurse Residency Program (ONRP) or 1 year of recent experience as a Registered Nurse. Ambulatory and/or oncology experience preferred. License/Certification/Registration Required Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or State of New Hampshire as appropriate required. AHA BLS required (AHA ACLS accepted as minimum requirement). Professional nursing certification preferred (OCN, BMTCN, CPHON, AOCNP, CRNI, RN-BC). Approval from the Nursing Executive for the market is required in order to waive the bachelor degree requirement at time of hire. Additionally for Rural Health Network facilities, for current employees, leadership may have considered acceptable qualifications and work experience equivalency based on facility size, rural market, and business need, prior to new Sanford education requirements. Three years of clinical nursing experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of the nursing practice act and standards of nursing care, and a working knowledge of administrative and management techniques. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Certification may be required depending on specialty or service area.
