Adapts procedures to meet individual needs of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients for treatment. Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each individual surgical procedure. Consults with other staff members, when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedure. Regularly collaborates with other members of the nursing team, in order to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers for the patient’s benefit. Demonstrates an understanding of the electronic system to retrieve and view pick tickets to pull surgical cases. Updates preference cards as indicated. Communicates changes/needs to inventory coordinator. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in preparing patient for surgery once in the surgical suit Demonstrates OR team involvement by actively participating in operating room turnover process, returning unused case supplies/equipment, and assisting with restocking of room supplies. Participates in surgical "Time Out" and "Sign Out" process for each procedure in conjunction with the circulating RN, surgeon, and any other surgical team members present according to departmental policy. Required Qualifications 1 year of recent experience as a Surgical Technologist or completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist training program. Current BLS from the American Heart Association Excellent communication skills. Basic computer skills. Able to multi-task and work well in a team environment. Detail oriented and able work well in a fast-paced, high stress environment. To act as a primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure. Has an understanding of the procedures being performed and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. adheres to departmental and AORN standards; Human Resource, hospital-wide, and departmental policies and procedures. Continuously monitors the quality of care delivered to our patients to promote efficacy, appropriateness, availability, timelines, effectiveness, continuity, safety, efficiency, and respect and caring. • Provides a safe environment. • Demonstrates use and troubleshooting of equipment. • Ability to take directions from RN. • Provides health care at the best value without compromising patient care. • Utilizes knowledge of anatomy and physiology/medical terminology for proper case preparation. • Secures equipment and supplies based on patient's needs. • Performs accurate sponge, sharp, and instrument counts consistent with policy and procedure. • Creates, maintains, and monitors and sterile field. • Constantly maintains an orderly instrument table/mayo and passes instruments and equipment as necessary to facilitate, without interruption. • Adheres to departmental policy and procedure and AORN standards in scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and aseptic technique. • Applies proper principles of prepping patient for procedure. • Immediately removes/reports equipment/instruments that are broken or not safe for patient use., • Precepts/orients new personal and students. • Accepts and labels medications onto the sterile field according to policy. • Provides age specific care. • Regularly attends departmental meetings, asks questions, and remains informed. • Maintains open communication with physicians, peers, and leadership. • Actively assists and supports performance improvement activities.
