Assist residents in dressing as necessary. • Assist in preparing residents for meals (taking to/from dining room, serving trays, placing bibs, assisting in feeding or cutting food, removal of trays, supervision in dining room, etc.). • Serve nourishment in accordance with established facility procedures. • Feed residents who cannot feed themselves. • Assure that resident’s food is accessible and self-help devices are available as needed. • Prepare residents for therapy, activities, physician visits, religious services, etc., to include transporting residents to/from such activities. • Keep incontinent residents clean and dry as possible at all times. Change bed linens, diapers and clothing as often as necessary. • Do not permit residents to smoke in bed. • Assure that the nurse’s call system is attached to the bed and within easy reach at all times when residents are bedfast. • Answer residents’ call lights promptly. • Check for food in residents’ room. Ensure that food is kept in a sealed container. • Report all complaints to the Charge Nurse. • Report any resident abuse immediately (ie., harsh/abusive language, unnecessary roughness, etc.) • Report any medication found in the resident’s room. Take to the Charge Nurse immediately. • Report all hazardous conditions and faulty equipment to the Charge Nurse immediately. • Report any bruise, skin tears, incidents or accidents to the Charge Nurse immediately. • Attend in-service educational programs, on the job training programs and meetings as directed. • Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator. Job Description The Women’s Health Service Line at UCSF Medical Center is, engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $175 million. The mission of the UCSF Department of OBGYN & Reproductive Sciences is to improve the lives and health of all women through excellence, innovation and leadership in Patient Care, Scientific Discovery, Education, Advocacy. “Leading the way in women’s health.” The Mission Bay Birth Center includes 9 LDRP rooms, 24 Post Partum rooms, 12 Antepartum rooms and 9 triage bays. This position reports directly to the Unit Director of the Birth Center, under Women’s Health and Adult Services. Job Summary Provides lactation assistance to women and infants within the Benioff Children’s Hospital, including but not limited to the Birth Center, who are attempting to establish or maintain breast feeding practices. Works to develop, implement and evaluate education around breast feeding for patients, families, and staff. Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Qualifications Required Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years of recent full-time clinical RN labor and delivery experience in an inpatient setting including high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, operating room, postpartum and well baby.
