Summary ARNP shall devote exclusive efforts to the practice of medicine as an employee of Confluence Health by providing professional sleep medicine services within the scope of APP's training and responsibility. Provides appropriate specialized outpatient Sleep Medicine health care services. Order sleep study examinations and provides treatment to minor/routine problems; performs or orders sleep study and other diagnostic tests; establishes diagnosis; prescribes medications and lab studies; instructs patients and family members about continuing care. Position Reports To: Practice Manager Essential Functions Sees new and established patients, completing a thorough history and physical examination that is problem-oriented for sleep conditions. Based on results of diagnostic work up including, but not limited to, home and in-lab sleep studies, prescribes appropriate treatments, DME, and follow-up visits in accordance with each patient's identified clinical needs. Develops a treatment plan for sleep conditions within the scope of practice and in conjunction with the Sleep Med MDs. Refers patients to Sleep Medicine physician or other specialty services when appropriate. Writes prescriptions and perform procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. Maintains accurate and complete patient records in compliance with organizational policy and professional standards. This includes documenting in clinical records in a timely manner and demonstrating proficiency in using the Electronic Medical Record documentation system. Counsels patients and families, helping them to understand issues related to sleep health and their own treatment options. Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification. Job Description Harborview Medical Center Inpatient Acute Care Float APP (ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant) This opening is for 100% FTE, Days; (and with weekend and holiday coverage, and with the potential for some night shifts). The Inpatient Acute Care Float APP team is composed of licensed physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are skilled and trained to work across multiple services at Harborview (currently including General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, & Burns). Float APPs possess the ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and provide comprehensive care. They play a critical role, filling in when there are staffing shortages, leaves and fluctuating demands. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Neuro Critical Care provides advanced health care to individuals, families or groups as an advanced or expert clinician. Performs assessment of individual health, analyzes data to determine medical and nursing care needed, plans a treatment strategy to meet identified needs, evaluates responses to nursing and medical interventions. GENERAL DUTIES Assessment: Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for any physiologic instability and utilizes data to formulate plan of care. Clinical Interventions: Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process. Analyzes the indications, contradictions, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions. Plan of Care: Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy. Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes. Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness. Facilitates the patients transition between and within health care settings. Education: Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members. Professional Development: Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, APPs, students and other health care providers. Patient Safety and Quality: Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree from an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program - required.
