Responsibilities The PACU RN is accountable directly to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all patients within the PACU scope of services. The Registered Nurse also coordinates the post-operative care of the patient with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, directs and guides other personnel while maintaining standards of care in the PACU. He/She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and abnormal results and symptomatology. Works with other departments and co-workers to provide quality patient care across the continuum, efficient patient flow and unit maintenance and organization. Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures. Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services. Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Current and valid state RN License. 2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. 3. ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 4. PALS (AHA) certificate preferred. 5. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Pre-admissions Testing Nurse Duties: Pre-admission testing nurse or PAT nurse duties include overseeing intake, during which you perform an initial physical assessment and interview the patient to obtain their medical history. PAT duties include performing any tests the surgeon has ordered, such as an EKG, and may be expected to draw blood for lab work. PAT nurses are often among the first people patients deal with as they prepare to have surgery. The PAT nurse is expected to help patients understand the process, answer any questions they might have, and discuss their post-surgical care plan with them. Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (OR) – Harbour View Medical Center Job Summary: The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by: Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status Determining the priority of the patient’s problems and needs Implementing clinical nursing interventions to acute, critical patients that require intensive medical care Developing and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment Essential Functions: Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient Responsible for managing the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinating the needs of the surgical team with other care providers Provides pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions Other duties as assigned Education: Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing Certifications: Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements) CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred, not required) SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred, not required) Experience: Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required) Completion of OR internship program (preferred, not required) Training: Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required) Bon Secours is an equal opportunity employer.
