Registered Nurse RN Clinical Research Coordinator (Full Time/Days)

Position Summary: Plans, initiates, coordinates, implements, and oversees clinical trials within the LGHealth Research Institute under the direction of the clinical Principal Investigator PI who is responsible for the overall conduct and management of the clinical trial. Coordinates the daily clinical trial activities and plays the critical lead role in the conduct of clinical studies in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Must display dedication, enthusiasm, commitment, confidentiality, and flexibility with cross coverage of sites and with on-call hours when required. Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties: Plans and coordinates assigned research studies, serves as principle liaison for the project, interfaces with research subjects and collects research data, oversees administrative support, develops appropriate tools needed to conduct the research, and maintains record keeping systems and procedures. Performs nursing responsibilities as needed based on research study requirements. Ensures all research activities occur in compliance with guidelines for human subject protection research. Ensures all key personnel engaged in the research study have met training requirements. Serves as a resource to other research staff members regarding assigned clinical protocols. Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, management, sponsors, and or regulatory bodies. Ensures billing of study procedures to the appropriate funding source. Provides regulatory oversight for the conduct of assigned clinical trials. Prepares and oversees LG Hospital IRB submissions and continuing reviews, maintains regulatory and legal documents per IRB, FDA, DOH and other applicable regulatory agencies when required. Develops and implements recruitment strategies in accordance with sponsor requirements. Oversees and conducts informed consent process under direction of Primary Investigator and maintains appropriate documentation according to GCP, FDA, and IRB guidelines. Maintains adequate inventory of study supplies. Oversees and maintains drug and medical device accountability according to regulatory guidelines for receipt, storage, dispensation, and return of investigational product according to SOPs policy on Investigational Drug Device Accountability. Collaborates with other Research Coordinators, particularly in areas where clinical and non-clinical research areas interface. Contributes to the mentoring of new research staff. Functions as a resource for physicians, other health care providers, and ancillary support staff regarding care of the research participant as it relates to any given clinical research protocol; conducts staff in-services as appropriate. Coordinates and manages the patient assessments according to protocol standards at LGHealth locations, in a clinically safe and regulatory compliant manner. Utilizes clinical knowledge and assessment skills necessary to evaluate, report, and record accurate medical information including response to therapy according to approved research protocol. Develops and maintains rapport with patients to promote adherence to treatment and data collection protocols. Coordinates participant tests and procedures and maintains study timelines in data collection and completion of case report forms. Assures collected data for any approved research protocol is correct, sufficient, all inclusive, regulatory compliant and the integrity is intact. Maintains study files in accordance with sponsor requirements and LGH SOP Policies, including consent forms, source documentation, narrative notes if applicable, case report forms, and investigational material accountability forms. Assures the source documentation of all research activities is completed and accessible for CRF completion, reporting purposes, and for site visits by Sponsors and other regulatory agencies. Facilitates, conducts and oversees monitoring visits with Sponsors and other related agencies for the purpose of evaluating the accuracy and quality of the collected data. Maintains effective and ongoing communication with Sponsor, research participants and PI during the course of the study. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications: Current license as a Registered Nurse, issued by the PA State Board of Nursing. Bachelor's degree in nursing OR Bachelor's degree in related field AND Associate Nursing degree. Two years’ experience in a research or clinical environment. Working knowledge of medical and research terminology. Comprehension of Federal Regulations for Human Subjects in research. Computer Competency including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, electronic data capture and electronic health records EHR navigation. Preferred Qualifications: Comprehension and certification in Good Clinical Practices ICH GCP for human research. You will serve in a key clinical role to the care team with primary responsibilities of HIV and other chronic disease management, care coordination, advice/triage needs for the team’s patients, and ensures excellent communication of the care plan across team members. In this role, you will conduct clinical nursing assessments and triage for team patients during routine and urgent medical visits in the outpatient clinic, as well as during outreach visits to shelters, drop-in centers, street venues and patients’ homes. You will also provide care coordination, medication adherence support, health education, and behavioral risk reduction counseling for HIV primary care patients. This role offers a unique opportunity to promote linkage, and retention to HIV primary care, with the aim of supporting people experiencing homelessness and living with HIV to achieve and sustain health and wellness. This position is funded until the end of March 2028 with the possibility for renewal. If this funding is not renewed, this position will end March 31, 2028. Responsibilities: Provides outpatient primary care nursing including medical assessments and triage services for HIV team patients coming in for same-day or scheduled visits; conducts virtual, telephonic, or in-person nurse assessment and triage to assess the severity of the patient’s health concerns using approved protocols and resources to advise appropriately. Documents patient information accurately and in a timely manner in the EHR. Implements the patient-centered plan of care, evaluates outcomes, and regularly communicates the plan of care, patient status, and progress toward goals with the patient and care team members; conducts comprehensive intake assessments for new HIV team patients. Administers vaccines, injectable medications, and provides wound assessment and wound care as indicated; provides medication adherence assessments and counseling. Provides directly observed therapy when indicated with support of outreach team members. Coordinates care with integrated HIV team behavioral health staff. Along with other team members, visits patients at shelters and other outreach sites to provide nursing care and care coordination services and identify barriers to medication adherence and engagement in care. Provides chronic disease management support for HIV as well as other common co-morbid medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Identifies any structural barriers patients face in accessing medical care and adhering to HIV medications, and works with the interdisciplinary team to address those barriers (e.g., housing, transportation, drug treatment, food, clothing, benefits, etc.) Assists medical providers in coordinating follow up related to the provision of medication (such as buprenorphine and naltrexone) for opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders. Coordinates preventative services for HIV team patients including, but not limited to, education, preventative medications, vaccinations, testing, and referrals. Promotes a compassionate and therapeutic environment that is responsive to the unique patient population and extends to members of the care team; demonstrates initiative and commitment to continuously improve services and processes that positively impact patient care and organizational goals. Participates in training and orientation of new nursing staff as directed by Supervisors. Exhibits a positive attitude with patients and establishes professional and respectful relationships with the internal and external healthcare team members, agencies, and healthcare facilities. Qualifications: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred; 2 years of experience working in an ambulatory/outpatient care environment required. HIV primary care experience strongly preferred. Certification as AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) preferred; however, this can be obtained after being hired, and program funding available to support this training . Expertise in substance use disorder and risk reduction principles, strongly preferred. Experience working with people experiencing homelessness strongly preferred. Our unit is open 24/7 with six beds designated for overnight patients, including those being treated for GI, requiring extended recovery and patients awaiting surgery. Seven beds are used for the preparation and post-care of patients having procedures in Interventional Radiology (IR), Endoscopy and surgery. Responsibilities Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care. Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care. Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients. Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research. Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension. Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education. Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. Qualifications Associates Degree in Nursing. Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing. Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity, customer/patient focused. Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
