Registered Nurse/RN - BMU (Northport, AL)

Overview Collaborates with the Emergency Department Staff, Medical Staff, and Clinical Assessment Team to provide direct care for Emergency Department psychiatric patients and admitted medically ill patients with behavioral health needs to include facilitating social and emotional needs, collaborating with Emergency Department staff, medical staff and physicians on medication schedules and evaluating patient progress. Collaborates with ED Physicians and Psychiatrist to ensure safe admission or discharge plan of care. Responsible for maintaining a safe environment through the use of assessment tools, monitoring devices and restraining techniques where deemed necessary. This position delegates to other team members to include LPNs, PCAs, PCAs/US, OTs and/or US. Responsibilities Assesses condition on each patient on presentation, admission, and on an ongoing basis to include but not limited to the patient’s physical condition, psychological status, social status, spiritual and cultural needs, pain assessment/management, nutritional and functional status, developmental or age related factors, and discharge planning needs. Plans, provides, and documents patient and/or caregiver education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors, after identifying barriers to learning. Complete and document suicide risk assessment on all High or Moderate Suicide Risk patients per policy Communicate findings with physician and care team. Evaluates and regularly reevaluates patient care; coordinates care planning with patient, family, providers and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes. Altru Health System and Universal Health Services are working together in expanding inpatient behavioral health services.This position is responsible for assessing, monitoring, recording and reporting symptoms or changes in patient conditions. RNs are required to maintain accurate patient reports and medical histories, perform mental and physical assessments, administer medication and treatment to patients, provide assistance to patients with daily activities and observe reactions. They are also responsible for managing activities with the therapeutic milieu including daily groups, education, 1:1 with individual patients and collaborating with other members of the treatment team to insure the best possible care for the patients. The Northside Hospital Staff Registered Professional Nurse manages patient care of an assigned group of patients in accordance with the philosophy and policies of Northside Hospital. Qualifications REQUIRED Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as an RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations. Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). PREFERRED BSN degree Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units. Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units. Work Hours: 7p-7a
