Job Summary: The Nurse Manager assumes primary leadership and management of defined clinical nursing areas to facilitate and deliver comprehensive quality nursing care and to manage the environment in which care is given. Major functions include: goals, planning, customer service/marketing, standards, certification and accreditation, administrative management, budget/cost containment, communication, and education. Ensures adherence to hospital or department and university policies and to nursing policies, procedures, standards, and practices. The Nurse Manager exemplifies the Upstate mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Upstate policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Nursing or Masters degree in Nursing required. NYS Licensed/Registered (or eligible) RN required. Three years post-licensure acute care RN experience (preferably in specialty area) to include leadership experience required. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. CPR-BLS certification required by the time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred. Nursing Leadership certification upon appointment or obtained within three years of appointment is preferred. Job Requirements POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Charge Nurse leads the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care according to the standards of professional nursing practice. The Clinical Charge Nurse ensures nursing care is provided to the individual patient based upon diverse patient demographics and needs. Adheres to compliance and monitoring for department service standards such as purposeful hourly rounding, bedside shift report and white board management to enhance communication. Manages unit productivity in a favorable way through good planning, organization and time management (e.g. incremental overtime). Identifies and participates in activities to appropriately improve patient safety, patient throughput, reduce length of stay and prevent readmission. Participates and assists in the selection, development and retention of associates and serves as a coach and resource to peers, staff and other healthcare team members; adds positively to creating and sustaining a healthy work environment. Provides effective medication administration to patients as evidenced by Preceptor Observation Tool, Skills Fair Demonstration, and Clinical Practice. Delegates and supervises patient care activities within the healthcare setting. Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Provides and Systems (HCAHPS) scores for department and medical center or written compliments by patients or others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma. Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
