This includes: Performing comprehensive histories and physical exams and identifying normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status. Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests. Developing pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans Serving as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, and students. Facilitating patient referrals to other medical providers, medical facilities, and other health/social service agencies as needed. Staff Management Complete and/or provide feedback to manager on staff performance and educational needs; collaborate with manager, physicians, and HR on performance improvement plans for direct reports when needed; provide ongoing coaching and feedback. Partner with system and departmental leaders to manage day-to-day operations of APP staffing and scheduling to meet business needs of the division. Ensure APPs are compliant with credentialing and licensure. Actively participate in recruitment and hiring of APPs. Facilitate graduate student placement within the practice. Professional Development Actively participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation for orientation and on-boarding for new APPs; serves as a primary resource for new hires. Coordinate professional development of APPs by arranging activities (ie. Lecture series, grand rounds) and being available to teammates to nurture professional growth; promote accountability and professionalism within the practice. Actively participate in professional organizations and accept personal responsibility for professional development and maintenance of professional competence and credentials. JOB SUMMARY: The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner delivers primary care to acute, critical, complex chronically ill and well neonates collaboratively with the Division of Neonatology. The NNP will work collaboratively with neonatologists, pediatric residents, fellows, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional, evidence-based care for critically ill and preterm newborns. Procedures: Competently perform or assist in neonatal procedures such as intubation, central and umbilical line placement, lumbar punctures, and other NICU related interventions. The NNP is expected to maintain procedural proficiency and actively contribute to the education of residents, fellows, and other clinicians during procedural training. Delivery Attendance and Transport: Serve as a key responder for high-risk deliveries, providing advanced neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, and transition of care in coordination with neonatologists and stabilization team. NNPs participate in ongoing evaluation of delivery-room practices and staff education. The unit provides ground and air transport services, with NNPs managing in-house care for transported infants upon arrival. Collaboration and Education: Collaborate with neonatologists, fellows, residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, and nursing colleagues to deliver coordinated, family-centered care. Engage in clinical teaching, bedside instruction, and mentoring of interdisciplinary learners, contributing to the hospital’s academic mission and culture of continuous learning. Rounds and Documentation: Conduct and document daily rounds, assessments, and care plans for assigned patients using the electronic medical record (EMR), ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Family Support: Educate and support families regarding infant care, development, and discharge planning, promoting family-centered care principles. Quality and Safety: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, maintain compliance with evidence-based practice guidelines, and contribute to ongoing process improvements that enhance patient outcomes. On-Call Coverage: Provide on-call and shift coverage in rotation with the neonatology APP team. Qualifications Education: · Master’s (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a neonatal focus. Licensure and Certification: · Current licensure (or eligibility) as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in the state of Georgia. · National board certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC or equivalent). Experience: · Two (2) years of NICU experience as an APRN preferred. · New graduates with strong NICU bedside experience are encouraged to apply. The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is an 18 bed unit that specializes in the care of children with complex congenital cardiac disease. Surgical procedures include repair of congenital heart defects and permanent pacemaker insertion. Medical interventions include management of acute/chronic heart failure, septic shock, renal and respiratory failure. Critically ill children are cared for with such treatment modalities as mechanical ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, temporary pacemaker therapy, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and acute hemodialysis. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.
