How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Conducts routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and emergency treatment on-site. Adheres to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, adherence to formulary regimens, and utilizing available in-house resources for treatment. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, while also reporting any concerns or questions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals. Provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Overview Under the daily supervision of the Department Administrator, and Clinical Supervision of a Psychiatrist, this role functions as an Advanced Practice Provider within EVMS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This role will enable the Department Psychiatrists to expand their capacity to perform comprehensive new patient evaluations, and to provide patient care for patients that have established and determined diagnosis. Assigned principal responsibility for primary health care of patients. Seeks the expert opinion or advice of a physician whenever the incumbent decides a case falls outside the scope authorized by policies and protocol. The Nurse Practitioner typically remains responsible for the patient throughout the course of treatment, provides the physical examination, the diagnosis, and the health care plan, determines when the patient has recovered, and releases the patient. The Nurse Practitioner may refer the patient to a physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment, but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent modification. Responsibilities Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and obtaining medical histories. Assumes ongoing responsibility for each patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery. Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition. Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment. Job Requirements What You Bring: Advanced Degree: Master’s Degree (NP) with a preferred focus on Adult, Geriatric, and/or Family. State Required Credentials: Active, unencumbered NP license and Board Certification (ANCC or AANP). Reliable Mobility: Valid driver’s license and vehicle for local field-based travel.
