Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness. Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries. Assesses patients. Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines. Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate. Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services. The academic appointment at Instructor will be in the Section of Pediatric Neurology & Developmental Neuroscience of the Department of Pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine. This junior level faculty member will be located at Main Campus. The Instructor will work alongside senior epilepsy faculty colleagues, fellows and advanced level practitioners, in the care of patients for General Neurology and Epilepsy. This candidate will assist with clinical care duties, clinic visits, and ultimately with goal of reducing our seizure/epilepsy clinic wait list and ensuring excellent clinic follow-up care. Job Purpose Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
