POSITION SUMMARY: To coordinate and implement clinical research protocols under the direction of the Director of Oncology Clinical Trials and Research Compliance, provide care to all or some of the patient's enrolled in each protocol, act as the patient advocate by assuring the safety, consistency, and accuracy of the treatment regimen as dictated by the protocol, and coordinate all nursing activities specifically related to the implementation of the treatment regimen. SCHEDULE: This position is onsite and part of the Valley Clinical Trials Research Program, focusing on Cardiology. It is a full-time, day shift role, Monday through Friday, with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, totaling 40 hours per week or 80 hours bi-weekly. In this role, your day typically includes: - Screening and enrolling patients - Obtaining informed consent - Providing ongoing education and support to participants - Coordinating study visits and performing protocol-specific procedures - Ensuring accurate documentation of all research activities You will collaborate closely with investigators, coordinators, and multidisciplinary teams to maintain protocol adherence, patient safety, and data integrity. EDUCATION: Bachelor`s degree in Nursing required. Current/valid State of New Jersey license (or legal permission to work from the New Jersey Board of Nursing. EXPERIENCE: Computer and keyboard skills. Medical terminology required. SPECIAL SKILLS: Physical and cognitive requirements: Position's physical requirements necessitate a full range of body motion including but not limited to, physically assisting patients, requiring stretching, bending, lifting, sitting, kneeling, stooping, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. Position is classified according to the USDOL as Very Heavy Work which is defined as exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH0 guidelines, which recommends that the average worker not lift more than 51 pounds without assistance, will be followed. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination are also required as is constant talking and listening in English. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, including speech clarity, understanding the information relayed, deductive and inductive reasoning skills (the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense and the ability to combine pieces of information to/from general rules or conclusion respectively). Considerable walking, standing, sitting, reaching, filing, typing and photocopying required. Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to function competently in stressful situations and changing work environment related to changing needs of patients with acute, chronic and complex and/or terminal disease processes. Ability to work cooperatively within health system, multidisciplinary team members (i.e. MD's, Rehab, Respiratory, DI, Laboratory, etc). Two rooms are utilized as video epilepsy monitoring rooms. We care for newborn infants to young adult patients with diagnoses that range from medical/surgical patients and orthopedic surgeries including scoliosis, fractures and congenital repairs to cranial surgeries, diabetics, transfers from Nursery ICU (for home transition teaching) and the Mother/Baby Unit. All nursing staff is PALS certified and take an EKG class. Parents are allowed to be in the room 24/7. We round bedside with an interdisciplinary team: physicians, nursing, social work, case management, pharmacy, and other ancillary departments. We believe and live: family centered care! The ratio is 1 RN to 5-6 patients with PCT support as a part of this team. Summary Coordinates patient care planning with other disciplines utilizing the principles of the nursing process and critical thinking skills in order to maintain patient safety and well-being. Essential Functions Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure safe patient care. Writes or obtains initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans; maintains patient documentation. Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and floor nurse reports; makes complete rounds of all units, and notes patients' condition. Notifies appropriate physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation. Works with other members of the interdisciplinary patient care team, implements and reinforces patient instructional needs with patient and family offering informational material and pointing out special areas of concern. Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other specialists as needed and adjusts nursing care processes as necessary to ensure optimal patient care. Identifies and resolves workplace health and safety issues. P rovides appropriate, direct patient care utilizing appropriate aseptic techniques. May manage IV lines, ensure that sterile techniques are adhered to, and oversee patient movement and positioning to ensure that the patient is handled in a medically safe manner. May perform the administration of pharmacological vasodilator medications for the purpose of nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging; complies with examination competency as defined in the Imaging Services Practice Standards. Complies with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur. Orients, instructs, and educates assigned personnel. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION: Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program. ( Some positions may require additional training related to specific skill area, such as EP, which requires instructional programs in intra-cardio echocardiogram and electrophysiology, which includes 30 ablation procedures.) EXPERIENCE: One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred. (Positions assigned to EP: require two (2) years of EP experience or demonstrated competency in all areas of EP Lab procedures). LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Some departments such as OR, Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI Lab will require advanced life support certification (ACLS and PALS). ( Additional certification may be required for some specialties, such as EP certification from International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners for Special Competency in Cardiac Electrophysiology for the Associated Professional or equivalent certification.) For Outpatient Hospice & Pediatrics areas, valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card within 6 months of hire and for Mental Health only Crisis Prevention Instruction (CPI) required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Knowledge of direct patient care and critical care procedures and techniques, tools, and responses required to ensure optimal patient care. Knowledge of exam indicators, contraindications and patient preparation. Skill in communicating in a clear and concise manner with staff involved in critical care, and physicians to ensure the proper care of patients. Skill in reading 12-lead EKG. Skill demonstrated in assigned disciplines such as EP, directly involved in patient care. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence. Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action. Ability to speak and communicate effectively.
