Bachelor of Science in Nursing strongly preferred. MA RN License required. Current ACLS and PALS Certification required. The RN works in partnership with the Health Center Team to provide quality patient care and excellent customer service. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES Recovery Room • Monitor patients in recovery room, including taking vital signs, dispensing medication, giving verbal and written aftercare instructions and birth control information, and reporting signs or symptoms of post abortion complications to the MD on duty. Informs client of need for post-abortion follow-up. • Maintains client statistics to be given to on-call staff. • Maintains accurate inventory of all drugs that are dispensed in the recovery room. • Completes appropriate cleanup of the recovery room at the end of each clinic including but not limited to locking up medications, cleaning recliners, emptying trash. General Responsibilities • Practices nursing within the scope of a registered nurse and in accordance with agency protocols and policies. • Provides education in a non-judgmental manner to patients by providing support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues, including birth control methods and pregnancy options including abortion, STI’s/HIV and safer sex. • Consults with organization physician when deviates from standard medical protocols. • Complies with all applicable state (Dept of Health, Pharmacy Board, Nursing Board, Medical Board) and federal Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards, infection control, safety, and DEA) regulations. • Understands and complies with policies regarding patient rights.
