JOB SUMMARY: The Nurse Practitioner, Critical Care delivers primary care to acute, critical, complex and chronically ill patient population collaboratively with the Divisions of Critical Care Medicine and Cardiac Intensivists teams. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive: physical assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation for patients and their families. The Nurse Practitioner also provides acute resuscitation, on-going multi-disciplinary medical management, transitional care to sub-acute areas, critical care consultations and evaluations, psychosocial support, and health education to patients and their families in the critical care arena. The Nurse Practitioner also functions as a clinical leader, consultant, and educator in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and all healthcare team members. The Nurse Practitioner supports the philosophies of the department and is evaluated by nursing and medical staff. The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner also performs under standardized procedures within the critical care specialties per Medical Staff privileges. Generally, they are working in a unit that is a 24/7 operation. Schedules are not limited to Monday-Friday with limited or no holidays. This provider will join a team of both physicians and APPs on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule that provides 24/7 care to critically ill medical patients at the Rush main campus. This opportunity will require an anticipated 12-14 shifts per month. APPs will work autonomously and in collaboration with Rush pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows and will be required to perform a number of procedures including central line placements, paracentesis and temporary hemodialysis catheter placements, among other duties. Department/division specs There are more than 400 APPs employed across the Rush system. The AICU team is fully staffed with 9 APPs. We work closely with many departments (palliative care, hepatology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, etc.) as part of a multidisciplinary approach in the ICU.
