This includes ordering, performing, and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies and prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and therapies. Manages conditions based on clinical indication, evidence-based care, cost effectiveness, and assessment of risks/benefits and alternatives. Provides health promotion, disease prevention and disease management counseling and education of patients and families. Manages patients as part of an interdisciplinary team and within scope of practice. Seeks physician or other healthcare team member consultation or referrals as appropriate. Escalates need for more emergent or specialized care when necessary. Maintains accurate, complete, concise, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Substantiates and submits professional services consistent with compliant coding and billing practices. Facilitates consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team and/or health or community agencies. Performs office or hospital procedures in accordance with specialty practice, competency and granted privileges (where applicable). Other responsibilities: Participates in quality, safety, and peer review initiatives/performance activities, organizational and/or departmental meetings and committees, peer review, and workgroups as necessary. Participates in education and/or onboarding of new team members, students, and other health care professionals. Seeks experiences to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and advance the profession within and outside of the organization. Maintains standards of productivity, access, face-to-face time, and quality metrics to ensure optimal, safe and timely patient care delivery. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. This satellite practice provides an excellent opportunity to practice with a close knit group of community physicians as well as within the larger community of Stanford Children’s Health in a collaborative and supportive team practice. This is a fixed term position for 6 months. General surgery patients range from premature infants to young adults. Common conditions seen include emergency, acute, and chronic surgical conditions, infant and congenital surgical conditions, colorectal and intestinal conditions, tumors, and vascular lesions and vascular associated syndromes. The general surgery department also has numerous specialty outpatient programs including aerodigestive and airway reconstruction center, adolescent bariatric surgery, chest wall program, colorectal and bowel management program, intestinal failure and short gut program, and pilonidal disease program. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in the whole spectrum of surgical patient care from outpatient clinical evaluation, specialty clinic evaluation, and inpatient rounding and management of post/preoperative patients. Outpatient responsibilities include staffing independent NP/PA clinics, assisting with surgeon clinics, assisting with patient advice and questions, family and device teaching, and case management. Inpatient responsibilities include collaborating with the physician team to round on general surgery inpatients, new patients consults, address calls from inpatient team members, and coordinating discharge needs. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Join an independent, high-volume outpatient practice focused on general gastroenterology in an academic setting Provide initial consultations, evaluations, and follow-up care for patients with a variety of general gastrointestinal conditions Support timely patient access by providing efficient evaluation and management of new and established patients Practice at the top of licensure while contributing to quality improvement and patient access initiatives Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary digestive health care team Primary Job Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive evaluations and consultations for patients with common gastrointestinal complaints, including abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, dysphagia, and gastrointestinal bleeding Diagnose and manage general gastrointestinal conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticular disease, hemorrhoids, and functional gastrointestinal disorders Perform pre-procedure evaluations to assess patient readiness and determine appropriate sedation or anesthesia requirements for endoscopic procedures Interpret laboratory, pathology, imaging, and diagnostic test results to develop and adjust treatment plans Document patient assessments, clinical findings, diagnoses, and plans of care in the electronic medical record Collaborate closely with gastroenterologists and the procedural care team to coordinate endoscopic evaluations, optimize patient preparation, and ensure timely follow-up Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, lifestyle modifications, and preventive gastrointestinal health Refer patients to appropriate specialists and ancillary services when clinically indicated Coordinate care with referring providers, primary care clinicians, specialists, and ancillary services to ensure seamless continuity of care Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care using sound clinical judgment and evidence-based practice Participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and practice development activities that support excellence in patient care, operational efficiency, and patient access Requirements Current and valid Washington State ARNP licensure or Physician Assistant licensure Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or an accredited Physician Assistant Program DEA prescriptive authority BLS certification Training in the assessment and diagnostic evaluation of digestive health patients Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary, collaborative team environment About Uw Medical Center-northwest UW Medical Center is an acute care hospital located in Seattle with two campuses: Montlake and Northwest. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, autonomous environment within both in-patient clinic and virtual settings. Ability to pursue queue of telehealth patients in a timely fashion to ensure proper patient follow up. Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests, as well as responsibly prescribe medications and educate patients on continued treatment and care of acute and chronic conditions. Current License or Certification: License and DEA must be active, in good standing, and verifiable with the proper regulatory agency. DEA required for all providers; however, where limited by years of practice under state law, DEA will be required within 120 days of provider meeting the minimum years of practice under state law for obtaining DEA. Providers must be able to treat all ages and must meet any credentialing requirements needed; and DOT certification is required to be obtained by FT and PT Providers within 120 days of employment and maintained during employment.
