The registered nurse cares for a variety of patients with unique age/developmental and sociocultural needs. The provision of care is planned based on the needs of the patients. Each patient care area defines the unique competencies of the role based on the populations served in that area. The New York State Nurse Practice Act and A.N.A. code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements guide the practice of the Registered Professional Nurse.
