These patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. Nurses on this unit learn the skills necessary to maintain vital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families through difficult times. The PICU Registered Nurse will coordinate patient care in collaboration with physicians, PICU CNS, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life, Social Work, Nutrition and Discharge Case Managers. Directly responsible for the trauma registry and reports on files for assigned projects. Aggregates, analyzes, interprets and trends data. Ensures the accuracy and timely entry of data into the database through scheduled data scrubbing reports that are distributed to the trauma registrars. This activity ensures the hospital follows all standards as they relate to Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons and National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB). Coordinates and submits the defined data submissions to TQIP, NTDB and VDH in timely manner based on the requirements of each organization. Trauma database point person for Trauma Registry staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues with the database to facilitate quality data collection. Serves as the educational coordinator for teaching/updating the trauma registrars of changes in data collection due to NTDB updates, research projects or quality initiatives.
