The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN Resident provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN Resident serves as an advocate for patients, families and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience. What will you do in this role: Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner. Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication. This means it provides the highest level of care for pregnant and postpartum patients, especially those with serious or complex medical, surgical, or pregnancy-related conditions, including those at high risk for maternal morbidity or mortality. The center includes a 95+ bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 30+ private rooms, 10+ rooms for very small babies, and 10+ beds for babies needing neurological care. It also has 35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including Central Texas’ first low-intervention birthing suites with tubs. There are 95+ postpartum beds, 20+ antepartum beds, and Cesarean section surgical suites. The facility offers 24/7 neonatology coverage, OB/GYN hospitalists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, lactation consultants, and a midwifery program. It is part of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network and TexasAIM, and it also provides a high-risk pregnancy navigation and support program. St. Davids Surgical Hospital is part of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children. It has its own 24-hour emergency department, a medical-surgical inpatient unit, and a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under. Patients of all ages are seen 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. There is a total of 45 rooms in the ED, which includes 5 barco-lounger spaces for lower acuity patients. The Emergency Department is divided into five major zones: Major trauma and critical care, Resuscitation and minor care, Pediatrics, Acute care, and Rapid Care. There are two distinct waiting areas, one for pediatric patients and their families, and the other for all other visitors. There are 7 negative flow rooms, one of which is also an isolation room. Clinical and clerical workstations, nutrition areas, and supply and pharmaceutical dispensing machines are centrally located in each zone. A dedicated radiology suite, including 2 CTs, a DECONTAMINATION suite with a separate entrance, as well as a satellite lab are also located within the Emergency Department. In 2017, it is anticipated that Albany Medical Center will open a Level II Pediatric Emergency Department with 15 exam/treatment areas, 2 trauma resuscitation rooms, and a pediatric observation unit. Each ambulatory patient is initially evaluated at the triage. Patients arriving via EMS are directed to the appropriate patient care room by the flow facilitator during peak hours. Acute psychiatric services are referred to the Psychiatric Crisis Unit at the Capital District Psychiatric Center. Acute burn patients may be transferred to a regional burn center after stabilization. Job Summary and Qualifications As a Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intermediate Care (IMC) Unit, you will be responsible for performing patient assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating care. You will be responsible for directing, monitoring and evaluating the care delegated to non-licensed personnel on the team. * You will perform and document patient assessments at the time of the admission * You will create a plan of care, including discharge plans, revise the plans based on the patients’ response to treatment and regularly evaluate plans for effectiveness * You will document the outcomes of nursing interventions and patient responses * You will provide educational materials to patients and families on care and treatments * You will administer medications and complete treatments according to hospital policy * You will perform venipuncture, administer and maintain IV fluids and IV medications * You will review all new physician orders, ensure that orders are carried out and documented correctly, and verify that other departments are notified of orders and services * You will provide accurate and relevant patient information reports to the Nurse Leader and to the on-coming shift to ensure continuity of care Requirements Experience * 1 years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a Med/Surg unit * 1 year of nursing experience in a Stepdown Unit – preferred Education * Associates degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program * Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – preferred License and Certifications * Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License.
