Responsibilities: Clinical Assessment and Documentation Conduct comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies Identify normal and abnormal health characteristics and document findings in progress notes, care plans, and discharge summaries Dictate and maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with institutional standards Treatment Planning and Care Management Collaborate with physicians to formulate and implement treatment plans for identified health problems Initiate appropriate care and therapeutic interventions consistent with continuing healthcare needs Continuously evaluate patient responses and outcomes to adjust plans of care as needed Prescriptive And Diagnostic Functions Write prescriptions for medications and blood products based on laboratory results and established protocols Order routine diagnostic and follow-up studies and therapeutic measures within limited prescriptive authority Coordinate post-discharge care in alignment with written practice protocols and institutional guidelines Procedures and Specialized Services Perform diagnostic procedures including lumbar puncture, lumbar puncture with chemotherapy instillation, ommaya tap, ommaya tap with chemotherapy instillation, and ommaya tap for indium DTPA instillation Obtain specimens such as cerebrospinal fluid as clinically indicated Inpatient and Interdisciplinary Care Conduct or participate in inpatient rounds for the Neuro-Oncology Service or Cancer Neurology Service when assigned Ensure delivery of appropriate, high-quality inpatient care through interdisciplinary collaboration Perform other duties as assigned in support of clinical operations and patient care APRN or Physician Assistant EDUCATION: Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) provides state-of-the-art critical care to children with congenital and acquired heart disease. We care for more than 750 patients each year. Our CVICU is currently a 29-bed unit with plans to expand to 36 beds in the next few years. We are a post-surgical and cardiac medical unit. Our Pediatric Heart Transplant program is complemented by the Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies (PACT) program. PACT provides artificial circulatory assist devices as alternatives to or bridges to transplant. These include ECMO, the Berlin Heart and Heart Mate.
