Overview Works under the supervision of the OR Nurse Manager/Clinical Director and is responsible for ensuring operational oversight of surgical cases and the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care. Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care. Will round on the patient pre-operatively and post operatively to enhance the patient experience. Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures. Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need. Successfully coordinates with physicians, employees and leadership to meet specialty-specific needs; to include, employee education, equipment/supply needs, and physician preferences. Work with leadership to determine cardiothoracic coverage needs on a daily/on call basis. Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents. Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. Document required information for registry and antibiotics and beta blocker timing. Works to implement cost-saving measures for assigned specialty through limited supply use accurate documentation and auditing of specialty charts, coordination with vendors and achieving physician support for product standardization. Works to train all staff assigned to the specialty to a level of proficiency with documented competencies. Engages physicians in the training process. Works directly with the specialty tech and lead first assistant to ensure competencies are valid and complete for surgical techs. Works with OR Educator to ensure completion of specialty specific competencies for all OR staff. Responsible for emergency supplies, processes related to Cardiothoracic surgery to include frequent drills. Summary This Registered Nurse (RN) 2 job exists within a designated inpatient specialty area. Directs and supervises others in the performance of delegated nursing activities. Teaches the patient and/or significant other(s) about the plan of care. Prepares patients to manage their care after discharge, transfer or preparation for procedure/test. Manages time and resources to deliver patient care. Administers medications to patients. Experience One year prior clinical nursing experience. Evidence of experience in working effectively and positively with patients, care providers, and the multi-disciplinary team. Qualifications The ideal candidate for the Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) will have the following background and experience: Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. Minimum 0-3 years of RN experience. Willing to consider an entry, mid, or senior level candidate. Current RN state license with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
