How you make a difference As a Physician's Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, and assist the Physician in providing medical care and treatment to the inmate population, which includes addressing behavioral health disorders. You will coordinate patient care plans by conducting assessments, developing plans, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes, all while working collaboratively with the healthcare team and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations at the agency, local, state, and federal levels. Key Responsibilities • Conduct daily sick call, carry out treatments, and follow standardized procedures and protocols.• Provide emergency care for identified medical emergencies and coordinate patient transfers to appropriate facilities.• Perform minor surgical procedures, repair lacerations, and remove sutures.• Treat and manage non-psychotic behavioral health disorders and provide ongoing care for patients on maintenance doses of non-psychotic medications.• Participate in Quality Management and Peer Review activities, document findings using the S.O.A.P.E. method, and attend quarterly Quality Management meetings. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. Scheduling & Practice Model This position is based in the Portland/Vancouver area and requires dual licensure in Oregon and Washington. NNPs rotate between both NICU sites, with frequency tailored to individual preferences while ensuring 24/7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays. A well-established self-scheduling model and structured holiday tracks contribute to provider satisfaction and balance. Compensation & Benefits As part of Legacy Medical Group, NNPs receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes: Competitive compensation License reimbursement Generous annual continuing education support Full benefits package and more Responsibilities Patient Care Management: The NNP’s work collaboratively with Neonatologists and pediatric subspecialists in the NICU as well as pediatricians and obstetricians in the Labor and Delivery and Family Birthing centers to guide the care of neonates and infants across the care continuum. The NNP’s are able to practice in an autonomous role utilizing technical procedural skills as well as essential decision making in the care of these patients. Nursing Care Support: The NNP team provide ongoing support to the nursing staff whether on the unit or through formal education opportunities. The NNP’s are key leaders in patient care projects that support both nursing care and medical management. Resuscitation: The NNP’s attend deliveries in person at each of the medical centers and via a telehealth support platform at the other level I nursery sites to provide a consistent high level of care for newborns throughout the Legacy system. Discharge Planning: The entire NICU team works to provide an integrated family care experience to enable families to care for their high-risk infants within the NICU setting and beyond. The NICU values input from all members of the team including dedicated neonatal RT’s, consultants from dietary, OT/PT, lactation, as well as the core nursing, medical and leadership staff. Qualifications Education: As required by licensure. Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience as an NICU Staff Nurse, Level III preferred. Licensure Current applicable state RN license required. National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) required. Current applicable state license as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Privileges (NNP-PP) required. Credentialed by Legacy Medical Staff for Category I and II privileges. Completion of ECMO certification course preferred. NRP certification from the American Heart Association.
