Job Description: Registered Nurse (RN) ICU Registered Nurse Job Summary: Directs patient care using critical care skills to determine appropriate nursing diagnosis, planning and implementing interventions and evaluating outcome for optimum patient outcome. Registered Nurse Principal Accountabilities: Demonstrates the ability to read cardiac rhythms and treat them according to ACLS standards within 90 days of hire to provide advanced cardiac care to patients. Shows ability to obtain and assess hemodynamic values and maintains care of invasive monitoring equipment to provide valuable information regarding cardiopulmonary function and early detection of change in condition. Demonstrates knowledge of IV medications and drips restricted to use in the ICU setting, their indications, dosage, and the required monitoring to assure safe nursing practice. Responsible for cardiac rhythm interpretation of the telemetry patients on the medical surgical unit; notification of the patient’s nurse and physician regarding arrhythmias; ability to give direction to and relieve the monitor tech/unit clerk as needed. Prepared to respond to in-house code blue emergencies and to act as the team leader following standard ACLS and PALS protocols. May be asked to serve as preceptor, providing training and practical experience needed to prepare newly hired RNs to gain independence.
