Overview Shift: Day Shift - Full Time Unit Acuity Level: MedSurg Hospital: University This position is referral eligible and currently qualifies for a NEW hourly location differential in addition to standard shift and holiday differentials. About the Unit: This unit specializes in Surgical Oncology, specifically: pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and ear/nose/and throat cancers. Additionally, the unit often sees surgical interventions, related to upper\lower GI, as well as medical patients on shifts. This unit does not administer chemo. This is a high functioning, fast paced surgical and specialized care unit. Clinical Nurses will be a part of a lot of peer-to-peer team collaboration and decision making for recovering post-surgical patients with a cancer diagnosis. This unit at University Hospital provides a phenomenal learning and collaborative environment within a high acuity setting for all nurses. We were recently recognized for going over a year without any accidents. Nursing skills gained on this unit: Peer-to-peer collaboration Patient and family education Patient assessment Critical thinking Qualifications: Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license. Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
