Overview JOB SPECIFICS The Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 64-bed, private-room unit with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit, and a Small Baby Unit. Team consists of our full-time neonatologists, nurse practitioners, residents, APP and physician fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, and consultants from multiple specialties deliver the most advanced care to premature and high-risk infants. Rounding approach is family centered. Isolation facilities available. Management of premature and high-risk infants including bedside invasive and non-invasive monitoring, conventional and high-frequency ventilation, and surgery in multiple specialties, including cardiac and neurology. Opportunity to perform procedures such as intubation, thoracentesis, PICC, arterial and umbilical lines as well as newborn resuscitation for all high-risk deliveries. Additional opportunities to assist with transport of critical infants and to rotate to Level II nurseries in the OSF HealthCare System. General Summary: The PA or APRN under the supervision of the Physician, who acts as the collaborative practitioner, is responsible for: Performs physical examinations of patients; evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic urologic conditions within the hospital setting and practice Procedures to include, catheter replacement/removal, injections, ultrasounds, circumcisions Surgery first assist Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, etc. Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed Collaborates with physician and staff as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff Displays a caring and professional attitude at all times as well as maintaining personal and professional growth Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public. Strong communication skills Patient management and surgical first assist for pediatric general surgery patients. Collaborate with supervising physician, pediatric surgery team and staff to provide consistent patient care in the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings. Perform and document patient histories and physical exams. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, Ultrasound etc. Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and implement care plans. Participate in daily inpatient rounds. Evaluate consultations in the emergency department and outpatient office. With appropriate training and supervision, perform bedside procedures such as newborn circumcision, extra digit excision, drainage of abscess, local wound care, ostomy and gastrostomy tube care.
